Please use this site as a tool to explore Portland's unique and diverse neighborhoods. There are almost a hundred official designated neighborhoods in the city proper. Originally divided (North/South by Burnside Street, East/West by the Willamette River) into quadrants, the city of Portland was formalized into five sections (still called 'quadrants') in 1931.
More recently, a number of historic neighborhoods were combined into the neighborhood of South Portland, which is also designated on current street maps– if not the actual street signs – as a "sixth quadrant". In the interest of simplicity (as well as a much cooler map graphic), we're sticking with the original five. If you have ideas for improving on this… please let us know.
